To A Someone

Got one of these guys yesterday evening.

Totally out of the blue. Completely unexpected. And hey. wait. what ?? I didn’t know it was supposed to rain … Husband and I muttered back and forth. But since absolutely nothing was happening outside our window, we went about our biz, per usual.

When the siren bellowed, ’cause the siren rarely bellows, we acknowledged, uh, yeah … maybe we better take this seriously …

8 separated times that alert-er howled. ! Eight ! But still, nothing but humidity covered my personal space (and we alllll know my feelings towards humidity).

gaaaa.

& so, I texted Dad to be sure he received the warning, double checking he and bro were seeking shelter.

Daughter wondered.

Sister informed.

& Are you hiding ?? our concerned offspring asked with a

reply from me. ‘Cause seriously, nothing was happening.

Turns out, damage was done in various towns and cities around us

and I’m hoping people who were in this beast’s path are surveying the damage with a !! WHEW !! that was close, grateful heart.

The circle of souls I call mine, experienced a few tossed lawn chairs, a pushed over swing, hail, winds … but all is swell in our world. And after all was said and done, I glanced out the back door, knowing everything would be precisely in place because NOTHING HAPPENED, a perfectly timed moment of serenity, I was quietly gifted

& as I sit here this morning, as I realize the selfishness of my yesterday’s here and now, I’m reminded, just because I didn’t see, I didn’t experience, I didn’t  …. ! … means a whole bunch of nothing to a someone who did.

And I thank you for the lesson in empathy, Mama Nature.
