Hey, Dad

Hey, Dad

Remember when you’d lie on the kitchen floor after dinner some nights ? All stretched out in your  hang on, just give me a second bliss as we, your children, would

(a) hunker down beside you

(b) jump on you

or

(c) shhh, leave you be

& remember when you would s l o w and steadily narrate your scary Swamp Story every time we’d find ourselves driving along that dark, dreary road ?

& remember the Christmas when you, Mom and us kids decided to partake in a Secret Santa Gift Exchange ? You drew my name that year and handed me a leather book bag for my college experiences (yep, I still have it ♥)

& remember when we would go apple picking in the Fall and how we’d always trek to the lake shore afterwards ? Picnicking, skipping stones and climbing that gigantic sand dune all the way to the top in anticipation of top-speed, weeeeeee !! running down

& remember the road trips to visit Mom’s family or our venture to Texas ? Or how about that time at the Farm when a few of us took a long hike into the hilly woods and thought FOR SURE no other human being had ever, EVER walked that path before ?

& remember when you taught me how to parallel park the day before my driving test ? Or those big groceries Saturdays and church every Sunday ?

& remember the swimming pool you diligently cared for and how your children and grandchildren LOVED when you’d decide to jump in ? oh !! and the ice-cold Goebel Beer to quench that summertime thirst ?

& remember the burnt hot dogs,

the reuben sandwiches, your incredibly delicious steak and gravy ? & those mashed potatoes ??!?? Or the birthday parties and ballgames ? The zoo trips and dashes to the airport ? The Easter egging and annual viewing of holiday lights ?

How’s about the shopping trips that neither of us wanted to take with a Hamburger Deluxe as our only way we’ll get through this goal ? YUM

Hey, Dad ?

Remember all those quiet moments where you maybe, just maybe, wandered into that elusive daydream of doing or wanting or being somewhere or something else, but your devotion your family was beyond measure ?

Thanks so much for THAT, Dad.

I know I speak for my siblings when I say, you’ve taught your children well. Because of you, we understand the importance of working hard, being kind, of simpleness-es and common sense and we could not have asked for a better guide on this journey called Life

So cheers to YOU, Dad, on this Father’s Day Eve, with a big, BIG HUG for our priceless, personalized, treasure trove of memories.
