Crossed Paths

Crossed Paths

I suppose I was 10 years old, maybe 12 ? but the memory hunkers like yesterday with her YOU KILLED NATURE exasperation. And technically speaking, I had. I squooshed that spider like it was nobody’s business.

Automatic.
Reflex.
Boom.
Done.

Spiders frighten me. They always have. They still do.
So
Yeah
With a spurt of courage, there was one less spider in this world.

YeP
A Cricket
Me, minding my life, cricket minding his (hers?)
& truth be told, I’ve never, ever had a beef with crickets. They are quick, melodious, little creatures and I truly enjoy their annual serenade, so WHY my foot smashed down like it did still puzzles my brain.
Why didn’t I leave well enough alone ?
just leave him be and I’d have never seen this insect again.

I’m bigger.
uh-huh
I’m better.
This is MY space, not yours, you insignificant bug.
just like that, I decided.
YeP.
I killed nature.

& why I’m obsessing over this choice I made ?
Because this world we live in amazes me beyond words

Artemis

yet scares me like nothing else.

War

work together
or
fall apart
good
versus
evil
love
hate
or
pick and choose
share this precious moment in time
or
callously rip it apart
help
hurt
live
die …

I’m sorry I ended your existence on this planet, Cricket,
but DANG,

your lesson, I learned.

And When
