Cemetery Sparklers

Cemetery Sparklers

Ahhhh, 4th of July, you truly are the best in my Book of Happy,

but before I move on in life, there’s a few somethings I need to say ’cause these tidbits are too important to be swept off to the side.

Every Independence Day, around one-ish or so-ish, Family and I gather up and head to the cemetery.
We are off to celebrate with Mom.
It is a lovely tradition, started with her interesting words of, cemetery sparklers.
Mom hoped we would find enough time during our ! America ! revelry to share a sparkler or two with her
& we have, we do.
We bring ourselves, our sparklers and we dedicate a moment of our holiday to Mom.
It might sound weird.
It might look weird
& the first year or two, it felt weird, but now, it’s right and comfortable and wonderful.
Yesterday was our 17th

& I have a feeling Mom’s cemetery sparklers will continue for a very long time …

Another annual snippet is more a shout out to Youngest Sister.
Long before I ever even thought about writing children’s stories, Sister gave me an idea.
We were sitting on a blanket in the park watching fireworks.
Somewhere between the oooos and ahhhhhs we noticed a fire flower that just couldn’t make it.

Up… Up… Up … and …
nothing
The poor guy just fizzled out.
boo.

We laughed, dubbed that fella, Dud
& commented, there’s a children’s story in there with an oh yes I can ending
& by golly, we should write it.

Every year since Dud first appeared, whether we are together or apart, I wait, watch, anticipate his arrival.
Dud never disappoints.
He is always there.
& I giggle to our someday story.

Although I’ve never penned a firework, I have written a thing or two since the 4th of July display so many years ago
& I can honestly say that night sparked something within.
I  believe the writer in me awakened with that silly conversation.
It took her a while to get revved up and invigorated, but she is certainly here, now
& I thank my sister and that little dud for giving me a much needed nudge.

YaY.

Yep.
Birthday #247 is in the books, America
& as always,
It’s been wonderful fun,

wonderful family.

Wonderful memories.
