I saw a shooting star this morning. It’s only the third one I’ve seen in my whole, entire lifetime and since it brought my heart such simple, delightful gleeeeee, I decided I’d Google …

Despite their commonly used name ‘shooting star’ they are not a star at all, they are in fact small particles of dust and space rocks.

uh, yeah. I know that, Science People, but I’ve only seen three shooting stars in my whole, entire lifetime !! and I’m a looker-upper !! I gaze at that sky all the time !! So tell me please, what are the odds of witnessing a shooting star ? It’s gotta be huge, right ? A not so often occurrence, a perfectly timed, lucky me moment !?!! Right ??

Right ?

& that’s when the analytical-s, the practicals, the common sense calculators crept into my moment and !! technically speaking !! informed me …

The quantitative value of the probability is meaningless without knowing the conditions assumed or imposed. Never accept anyone’s statement about the probability of anything unless they also tell you all of the conditions assumed. (This is why statements of probability are generally long winded.)

&

There is no such thing as a “shooting star”.

&

They are not rare.

&

You can see them every night. If you happen to be in a place with very little light pollution away from a town or large city, you’ll see them quite often.

& um, never mind, Logical-s. Truth be told ?? I’m kinda sorry I ask. But  ! ! hey ! ! I saw a shooting star in today’s early morning hours !! That’s only the third one I’ve seen in my whole, entire lifetime !!

& YaY.

Happy is my heart.

🙂

I Love You Too
