Soon, Next Time, Soon

Soon, Next Time, Soon

Can we HUG ?!?!!??  he stopppppp-ed in his !! happy to see me !! tracks to ask. And as his mama gently whispered, maybe next time, we smiled and squeezed the space between us instead.

!! NEXT TIME !! we promised.

next. time.

& speaking of hugs, there’s a someone in my life that offers super ones each and every time we greet, but what I wish for even more is to simply sit in their living room, pop open a big ol’ jug of Carlo Rossi Rhine and talk. Talk about this or that, talk about everything, talk about nothing. Because as much as I appreciate seeing their faces, FaceTime and Zoom can only offer so much …

and soon, next time.

Soon.

I’ve visited Charlotte, N.C. only once. It was November of 2019 and a grand time was had by allllll as we celebrated their move and a brand new life they were enthusiastically building. The drive to and fro was extremely doable and even a short flight back and forth could be accomplished if and whenever we deemed appropriate and YaY !! we pinky-swear swore, YAY, we will sooooooo be back !!!!!

and soon, next time.

They live a few short, three miles away and one would think we’d see each other ALL THE TIME. But, we don’t. We yap on the phone, we text daily and we consciously and ever so carefully keep our distance. Masks on, we stand waaaay apart in the driveway or in a backyard, say what we need to say, hand over a thing or two and scurry on with our talk to you later !! And although Husband and I have been invited to a few carefully put together and planned out gatherings, we’ve decided it’s better to hold off until the coast is really, REALLY clear …

and soon, next time.

Soon.

ohhhhhh, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October and November, incredibly slow and ever so quickly you came, you left and here we are December.

Here we are.

The holidays are hovering and we contemplate ways to do what we casually, normally, desperately ache to doooooo knowing we shouldn’t, we won’t, we can’t.

WE. CAN’T.

Not this year, not this time. And the slow and steady, drip, drip, drip, realization of that little fact makes my heart weep.

Truth be told, Covid-19 ?  your SCREW WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY AND CARRY ON !! temptation is THERE, right THERE for me to pick up and grasp tight, but no.

NO

I’ll relinquish my festivities, my revelry, my holly, jolly, happy-go-lucky, but we ALWAYS do it this way !! merriness this year and switch my mindset to try something different, make other memories, start new traditions. And because I love these wonderful souls way too much to rush

I will respect the voices of science who tell me to wait.

WAIT.

But perfectly priceless and soooooo worth the forfeit that future, ASAP day will be !!

and soon, Next Time.

Soon.
