Just A Little Bit

Just A Little Bit

We walked into the room and encountered an extremely perturbed human being and as sister and I hunkered in, he aggravatingly began his story

& we get it, we got it. This man has been in the hospital more days than we dare count and this latest setback was like a kick to his gut. I don’t have to be here, I don’t WANT to be here, I neeeeeed to get out.

So off Sis and I trotted, to ask questions, to find that kind soul who would understand

& there she sat, quietly and calmly by her computer screen. Yes, she was his nurse and !!YEP !! he did seem somewhat agitated today but after slow and steadily listening to our concerns and explanations and after slow and steadily listening to her concerns and explanations …. just like that … by golly …  we figured things out and just like that … by golly … a load was lightened, smiles returned and situations resolved

& YaY life was pleasant once again

& as I ponder these last few yesterdays, I can’t help but think where this could have gone and where it happily went by simply listening and talking.

She heard our words.  We heard her words and ta-da !! hello compromise !!

Oh, stories.
Each and every single one of us has a story to tell so why do we often assume, why do we sometimes judge, why do we always THINK we KNOW ??
& why don’t we take that teensy bit of time to ask,
to care,
to smile or wonder or help ?
Nope.
I guess it’s much easier to assume we have allllll the answers, to presume we have a clue
& wow
that’s just doggone sad because I don’t have any idea what it’s like to be you, just as sure as you can’t begin to know what it’s like to be me.
But if we simply TRY to figure each other out instead of surmising and inferring and deducing andandandandand

and

Here’s to trying just a little bit more.
