Today is their birthday,
which always gifts a lovely amount of

So.
As I was thumbing through the memories of this particular day x 2
I was gently reminded, somewhere down this road, came a switch in …
she’ll have Angel Food cake with chocolate frosting
and he’ll have Chocolate Chip cake.
You see, I’ve only made ONE Angel Food cake in my whole entire existence on this planet
& it was a dud, a true-blue DUD.
& Mom
oooohh, Mom
although she made Chocolate Chip time after time after many, many times, one day confessed, she wasn’t a fan of preparing this cake.
GASP
& since these souls we birthed shared the same day, Mom and I made the simple decision to swap cakes.
She’ll bake an Angel Food for my boy.
I’ll make a Chocolate Chip for her girl.
& so it remained.
Year after year,
decade after decade
with Dad and I continuing this sacred tradition, when Mom left this life in 2007.

Enter: recently
when a passing comment,
a !! YOU KNOW, YOU’RE RIGHT !! revelation appeared
& hmmmm, we hmmm-ed,
hmmmmm ….
That’s when Dad, who’s definitely prepared his share of Angel Food, volunteered to bow out this December 18th,
as I, for old times’ sake, offered to gift Sister her original,
with a BIG WHEW of a p.s. to my firstborn,
No.
I will not be attempting a second try at Angel Food.
Nope
This year, a Double Double birthday

with double double innies versus double double outies …
