… in this wonderful world …

… in this wonderful world …

Ever since the good ol’ days of traveling to Gramma’s house

I’ve been a big fan of billboards.
Yep.
Billboards.

uh-huh. BRILLIANT.

& just the other day, while Husband and I ventured from Point A to Point B, paying attention to the road ’cause I was driving, but also to those signs along that road, ’cause intrigued by them, I’ll forever be …
I glanced to my right and there he was,
Mister Rogers,
on a billboard,
with the words,
Won’t You Be My Neighbor …

& as my heart mushed up a bit, because I adore that genuine soul,
& because I’ve written about him a time or three

You Are Special

I thought I’d search through my archives for some of his words of wisdom …

Please, think of the children first. If you ever have anything to do with their entertainment, their food, their toys, their custody, their day care, their health, their education –please listen to the children, learn about them, learn from them.

All I can say is, it’s worth the struggle to discover who you really are.

When I was a boy I used to think that strong meant having big muscles, great physical power; but the longer I live, the more I realize that real strength has much more to do with what is not seen. Real strength has to do with helping others.

All of us have special ones who have loved us into being. Would you just take, along with me, ten seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are? … Ten seconds of silence.

Believe you. It is your story that is important. It is your mind and heart that can make things possible — just because of who you are.

It’s you I like,
It’s not the things you wear,
It’s not the way you do your hair–
But it’s you I like
The way you are right now,
The way down deep inside you–
Not the things that hide you,
Not your toys–
They’re just beside you.

But it’s you I like–
Every part of you,
Your skin, your eyes, your feelings
Whether old or new.
I hope that you’ll remember
Even when you’re feeling blue
That it’s you I like,
It’s you yourself,
It’s you, it’s you I like

And ahhhhh
a dose of Fred Rogers is just what I needed to begin this brand new today
to remind me,
you,
us

…there’s only one in this wonderful world… you are special….

🙂
