It Works

It Works

I think I’ve mentioned a time or three that I worked in daycare and with children for lots and lots of years.
With those years, came many a lesson learned from those wonderfully happy people, the biggest one of all being the art of persuasion.

Once I figured out how to gently distract and softly persuade a child, the easier life became
& I now know that unless a young one is legitimately sick or hurt, they can be coaxed out of any drama with quiet, patient diversion.

“WAAAAA. I hurt my finger” they may fuss.

Hand over a toy or make a goofy, exaggerated noise
& presto !
That hurt finger is off to bigger and better things.

But, “WAAAAA. I hurt my finger” they may fuss.
& if a “What ?! Oh no !” is replied …
Get ready.
That extremity is sure to reach terrible, horrible, unfixable pain.

It took me quite a many tries and fails but, once enlightened to the lovely art of persuasion ? ahhhhh. Life was good again.

Hey.
Ever notice how adults are just like children ?

Tell me it looks painful and you better believe I’ll whimper OUCH.
Tell me it’s fine and !! YaY !! it’s fine.

Tell me, I can
or
Inform me, I can’t.

Say, I will
or
No, I won’t.

Talked me into.
Talk me out of.

Build me up
or
Tear me down.

Praise
Doubt.

Be positive.
Be negative.

Yep.

Diversion.
Persuasion.
Either way, it works every time.
