Hey, They Say
You’re back.
Although, I suppose, you never really left.
Maybe I chose not to notice your energy,
maybe I’m just way too hopeful,
maybe you became LOUDER and BOLDER along your life path …
but yep,
here you are,
talking the talk, spitting the ugly, reminding, poking, advising, SHOUTING,
WE are divided.
Hey, They Say ?
what’s with your need to continually insist, I must be afraid,
of you,
of her,
of the guy down the street,
the gal on the bus …
DON’T TRUST ANYONE, you shriek
Be angry.
Be panicked.
Stay MAD.
Oh, They Say,
truth be told, I sometimes agree with your rant and rave.
These United States have seen better days,
we are torn
& it’s incredibly heartbreaking.
But here’s where you and I part ways, They Say,
you seem to thrive on hate
& I absolutely refuse to go where hate leads.
I’m committed, They Say,
to trust and joy and openheartedness
so no matter what you declare or however you fancy up disguise it,
I will never believe,
I will never, EVER follow.
Question.
Have you ever thought of turning over a new leaf, They Say ?
even for a day ?
If not, maybe you can give it a try.
Just. Try.
Say hello to a neighbor.
Smile at a stranger.
Offer a helpful hand.
Be kind. Be happy.
Release that awful anchor from your world for 24 hours and you will see this land we share in a brand new, amazing light.
It’s called,

& it’s beautiful,
it’s unifying,
& it can be us.
If given one teeny, tiny, simple chance, I promise, They Say,
LOVE can.
LOVE will.
Be US.
🙂
