Crossing The Street
So.
There I was, Barry serenading my vibe, trotting through the backandforthbackandforthbackandforth biz dubbed, cutting the grass.
And have I mentioned how I adore this tediously lovely chore ??
I do.
I really do.
π
Lost in happy, I looked up as he began his trek across the street
and I thought, hmmmm.
Realizing he was heading straight to me, I turned off my lawnmower, placed my earbuds in a pocket
and waited to greet this fellow human being.
Turns out, he had seen Husband and me out in our front yard a few different times and simply wanted to introduce himself.
Talkative, he most certainly was, and the more we chatted, a cascade of similarities unfolded.
He told me of ways he’s trying to improve his teeny, tiny slice of this world
and I told him mine.
He being gifted with the art of meeting and greeting and being the one to get a conversation started,
me, quietly offering my stories, my poems, my words of hope …
Same mission, entirely different approaches.
This kind soul relayed how he tries his best, every single day, to acknowledge, smile, try to understand the other someones walking upon this home we call, Earth,
how oftentimes, people are open to his enthusiasm
how he leans on patience, to those who are not.
Somewhere in our continual yapping, he apologized for keeping me from my busy day and with a no worries affirmation, I handed him Smile, he passed along his card, I thanked him for taking a chance, he went his way,
I went mine …
and
and
and those who are loyal to these daily rambles know where I’m headed next …
people,
kind, goodhearted people
they are many, they are everywhere
& their genuineness unassumingly leads the way.
those pleasant souls who return a smile,
who stop to hold a door,
who pause a busyness to guide and explain,
who slow a stride for the turtle-walkers who happened onto their path
who casually, sincerely asked, how ya doing ?
how wonderful our world is
how amazing we can every day be.
And at the risk of repeating something I so often repeat β¦
uh-huh
itβs true.
I appreciate your reminder, M,
but more importantly,

I thank you for crossing the street.
