That 4th Job of Mine

That 4th Job of Mine

It’s Labor Day !

& normally, I’d run a repeat of my very first job as a porter at our local bowling alley or my second job as a dry cleaning clerk and how I conquered the chore of making change or that AWESOME third, summertime job of grass cutting for the Street Department of my favorite hometown. !! FUN !! but since we’ve all heard these stories too many times, let’s move on to job #4, shall we ??

Purdue Child Care Center was where I found my path, where I discovered my purpose, my born to be. Working there as I studied my way through Early Childhood Development, I was required to spend many moments in the center, mastering the art, the technique, the mindset, the this, the that’s and the absolute JOY of caring for the young.

Back in those days, kids wandered through the day together. There were no separate, age group rooms. Nope. Those 2- 3-4-5- 6 -s  all played together with the older kids happily helping or insistently pestered by those smaller souls. It was often chaotic, forever exhausting but delightfully doable. And to this day, if given a choice of a room filled with adults or 2-year olds ??

Yep.

Easy. Peasy.

as the innocence and wonder of youth continues to fascinates me.
So honest.
So amazing.
Enjoying the world through those fresh, little eyeballs will never, ever get old.

You feel so happy that you want to run around a tree ?
Burst into song just because ?
Dance, dance, dance… ! … to whatever gleeful melody is running through your brain ?
Children hand us these spontaneous delights daily

& children approach each other all the time, become instant pals because they just happen to be the same height,
with a simple wanna play ??
Boom.
Friends.

No inhibitions.
No judging.

I was incredibly fortunate to learn such a priceless life lesson at that 4th job of mine and to this day, hooked, I am, appreciative and  humbled, I remain.
