Tell Gramma what you learned in school today, his father coaxed as Grandson positioned himself in his seat, looked me straight in the eyeballs and inquired Do you know who Martin Luther King Jr is ??? I nodded YES as this sincere kindergartner proceeded to tell me what his 5 year old heart found near impossible to comprehend.

People had to use different water fountains and go to different schools and Martin Luther King said that was not fair. Were YOU alive when he was alive Gramma ?

I explained I was 8 going on 9 when Dr. King died and I don’t recall specifics but when Grandson asked, did YOU ever drink from a different fountain ?? cause that’s NOT very nice ! my insides melted

& wow, if that ain’t the simplest of truths, I surely don’t know what is

and although our conversation switched gears before we traveled into too many details, it would pain me to acknowledge just how not very nice ! we human beings can oftentimes be

& Love, oh LOVE

It sounds so incredibly easy when referenced by a child
& as I contemplate this peaceful holiday and man, I am absolutely dumbfounded as to why some find Love so difficult.

WHY ?

To love and to be loved is THE most precious emotion in this whole entire universe !
NOTHING tops that joy.
It is priceless.
It is true.
It is gold

& I am appreciative of the lesson taught to the 8 year old me and the child upon child upon child until his legacy reached the ears of my grandson

Powerful.
Eye opening.
Remarkable and amazing

& we will continue your message, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
