Critter Tracks

Critter Tracks

The perfectness of the fallen snow was absolutely stunning.

No marks or blemishes or clumps or disturbances of any kind, just the shadows of the trees and the gorgeousness of Winter

& in that breathtaking moment I sighed, “ahhhhhh” for humbling stillness encompassed me and silence never sounded so lovely.

Unfortunately, I could stay and enjoy only a brief minute or two because the sub-freezing air began to do it’s thing and brrrrr !! back inside to the warmth, I trekked.

I had ventured out into this polar vortex to offer food scraps and compost-able this and that’s to the wildlife who reside in the modest forest in my yard. It’s what I do and what I’ve done season after season, year after year. Wind, rain, sleet, whatever, sooner or later the varmints know they will get their “treats”

& bam, that’s when it occurred to me. !! Critter tracks !! There’s not one, single, slice of evidence !! no footprints or buzzing or talking or clamoring or presence of anyone or anything that call this place, Home. Nothing !!

& I thought, where do they go ? What do they do when record-breaking freezing has settled in around us ?? !! ohmygosh, Critters !! Please be ok!! ok ??

Thankfully, a few treasured degrees warmer the following day brought me this …

& this …

& birds, yes birds !! chirping and chattering, squirrels scampering about, a quick as a flash deer sighting, sunshine …

and noise.
