Just Imagine

Just Imagine

October 25, 2018 was the day I spotted and snapped this beauty of a picture & truth be told ? at first glance, I wasn’t quite sure what the heck that odd shaped form was doing there. It’s grayness seemed so out of place amid the color of the leaves but, the WOW realization instantly kicked in as I stepped underneath.

A community of wasps is what I saw and what I witnessed was hard work coordination. In and out and up and down and around and back. Every single everyone in that maintaining of a nest had a job to do and do, they impressively did.

WOW

I’ve since googled to discover a little bit more about those wing critters and did you know … ?? …

Wasps are sociable insects, living in colonies of up to 10,000 workers. They build their paper nests in disused animal burrows or in cavities in trees or buildings. Only newly-mated queen wasps hibernate during winter, and emerge in spring to begin building a nest. Queens lay eggs that hatch into sterile females workers. The workers take over nest building and food collection, while the queen continues egg laying.

In spring and early summer the workers collect mainly insects to feed the growing larvae. Towards summer’s end some eggs develop into fertile male wasps, called drones, and fertile females – next year’s queens. These swarm out of the colony and mate. The males die shortly afterwards. As the weather becomes colder all the workers and the old queen die too.

Hmmmm. Interesting.

I would keep an eyeball on this dangling nest every time I took a walk since that October day but with weather uncertainties and holidaying and other this and that’s in life, my trips to my beloved park became few and far between until recently

& here’s what I saw yesterday …

& I thought, DANG ! !

After Autumn picnics and curious humans, after steady rain and a November filled with freezing temps and early snow, after some pretty hefty wind gusts and abandonment three months ago … That one heck of a construction site, in it’s tattered and torn ways, is STILL THERE

& in the delightfully grand picture of it all ?!!??

Imagine.
Just imagine.
If a few teeny, tiny, flying bugs can build something so strong, so perfect, so beautiful …
Imagine if we the people of this great big, wonderful world would simply try to do the same.

TRY.

uh. huh.

WoW.

🙂
