Anticipating Next

As I was walking my walk the other day, I stumbled upon these spray-painted scribbles

and my very first thought was ‘NOOOOOO ! !’

Because knowing what I know about spray-painted scribbles …

& sure enough !!

GONE were the bushes and brush and flowers !! boooooo !! In their place sat an ugly pile of mud 🙁 and those beautiful old-timer trees ?!!? were stacked all nice and neat, waiting to be hauled away

& my heart sank.

It s a n k.

For I have visited those gentle giants on a regular basis for many a season. They have helped my puzzled brain, they have lifted my spirit and yes, oh yes, I will miss. I will very much miss

& suddenly, anger stepped over sadness and exclaimed ‘HEY !! PROGRESS !! why’d you have to come to MY neck of these woods and go messing with MY trees !!?!! & what in the world kind of building or store or restaurant or establishment could be more important than this batch of wild wonderment ?? Why did you destroy them ??”

WHY WHY WHY ??!??

But, in my sad, in my mad, in my befuddled state of mind, I kept walking. And Nature, as she so often does, calmed my perturbed head.

In her mysterious ways she reminded me that sometimes I’ll need broken, to be fixed, that new must replace old, that tired is ok. “Beauty remains”, she whispered. It’s over here and over there !! and lookie here too !!  Pause, reflect and realize that progress too, can be wonderful in it’s quiet, determined, difficult ways and that change is everywhere, in everything

& shhhh, noise.

Just shhhh

& so, I continued my trek, anticipating next, with a sincere promise that I will try to understand the progress of progress.

Thanks for your lessons, dear Nature. Slow and steady as you are, I always see your brightness up ahead.

🙂
