Oh, Robert

Oh, Robert

Why is it, you only enter my brain cells on Memorial Day ??
and there you hunker for a solid 24, with my annual ! I promise ! promise to do better, try better, BE BETTER.
Until tomorrow arrives, when your memory quietly fades away
and ! poof ! off to I’ll see next year, you’ll go.

Oh,

Robert

when you’re here, you remind of how things should be,
how your existence was taken, your life sacrificed, to better mine.
And how I should be thanking you and so many others every, single day of every, single year,
honoring and cherishing and REALIZING what you gave up for this land I call home, this treasure called, America.

Oh, Robert.
On those days when negativity surrounds and the noise machine is in full blown ugly,
please, please come back with a nudge to be kind
and gracious
and appreciative
and helpful
and open to all,
but mostly, remind me to respect the fragility of this precious gift as you so bravely did,

Oh, Robert.
